      Although i like the goal which is stated in a definite number, i would like to ask you.. What's the rush? Losing 20 pounds is realistically possible in a time span of 4-5 months without loss of water and essential muscle. Snacks and fast food are not going to get you there whatsoever. If this were to be possible with snacks and fast food, every tom dyck and harry would have a six pack. Good health requires some sacrifice on the food department. Eat regularly (5-8 times a day) in small portions and drink a lot of water! Drink about 1-2 gallons (4-6 litres) of water everyday.. It helps in mobilizing fat and better absorption of nutrients. Also, 30-45 of intense cardio everyday is essential. It's not easy but the rewards are visible to you and others. :)

      First of all, yes, she is overweight. That may be genetic (look at the parents) or diet (look at how many sodas, chips, breads and desserts are in your cart at the store) or both. Plus lack of movement.

      Low Carb is the FASTEST way to lose real weight. She could go with losing water weight by cutting out salt..or do the S diet..get rid of salt, sweets, seconds (second helpings) but to be so overweight at such a young age...she is set for a LIFETIME of yo yo dieting. Then when she hits 35 to 40...the weight never comes off, you just struggle to not gain more and more.

      If she is serious, get her the Atkins book, look at sites to follow the plan. She must talk to her doctor about low carbing. If he/she tells her to just change her lifestyle, then change doctors. She wants real help for a real upcoming event, right? So a doctor should realize that is REAL LIFE for all of us.

      If she really wants to lose, and it will be hard if her family is fat and always drinking soda or saying things like "You have dieted all week, one piece of cake won't hurt, you deserve it." That is really saying "You deserve to stay fat like us, honey."

      1. Whole grain pastas and breads, lots of fruits and vegetables, lean meats/fish or lowfat dairy. Snacks should be the same...low calorie, lowfat dairy snacks, vegetables or fruit. Try whole grain crackers, cheese, peanut butter, etc.
      2. Excercise: start with 20-30 minutes aerobic activity...get up and get moving (your sister I mean). swimming, biking, running, jogging, stairs, jump rope, dance, tennis, whatever, but make it hard and fast, work up to 45-60 minutes a day. Add some weightraining for toning muscles...lunges, situps, pushups, squats, stairs, leg lifts, partner situps, walking around when on the phone or at work/school, etc.
      3. Drink lots of water and start your meals with soup and salad...it will keep your body from feeling so hungry when you're eating your main course, and you'll digestion will be better. Cook own meals, avoid fast food and even restaurant food except for special occasions. Have healthy snacks to eat onhand so she's not just looking in the fridge and eating (i do it all the time, it takes some discipline).
      4. There are healthy options now for everything...sodas, snacks, even desserts. Just check labels and try to stick to a meal plan (average adult is 2000 calories a day, most people are like 3500 but they excercise less than the average person should). So, avoid sodas and juices with lots of empty calories and added sugars. Tea or coffee is good but not with lots of cream and sugar. Try fresh squeezed juice or more natural juice brands without lots of additives.

      4. Buy yourself a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day.

      5. Record everything you eat and all you exercise to make sure you have a "calorie deficit". Two of the sites I've included will help you do that.

      there is no quick fix other than surgery. Nothing worth having comes easy. you will just end up hurting yourself.

      But i wont judge you. all i will say is that a supplement called Thermobol is good but it is intended to be used alongside exercise and healthy diet. worked for me though.

      I find that drinking water helps a lot in shedding weight. It isn't so much the water but the lack of sugar that's in drinks that does it.
      I also walk whenever I can. Walking is very good for losing weight, so is eating less,.. Try it.

      how tall are you? its good you're looking for a healthy way to lose weight but dont get fixed on a certain number. if youre tall then you will have a higher number. one of my friends - who is a girl- is 5 foot 11 and weighs almost 170 but you can see her bones. that is skinny for her. how about exercising for like half an hour a couple of times a week? do sit ups or go for a brisk walk. its nice to get outside too. get some earphones and music to listen to while you walk.

      Apart from that:
      - lots of exercise
      - eating bran and other foods rich in fibre
      - drinking herb teas (green tea, chamomile, mint)

      Understanding Calories, Fats, Carbs, and Proteins

      A calorie is a unit expressing the potential energy in a food. Everyone needs a different amount of calories in their day to support metabolic activities. If you have more calories than it takes to support those activities, it will convert to fat. If you don’t have enough, it will burn fat for those calories, which will make you lose fat. Metabolic activities include EVERYTHING you do, sitting, breathing, playing sports, walking, pumping blood through your veins, sleeping, EVERYTHING YOU DO USES CALORIES!
      Most healthy food is low-calorie. You’d be really surprised with how much more healthy food you can eat to equal the amount of calories as high-calorie foods. A handful of chips, slice of pizza, and candy bar equals about the same amount of calories as a 4 oz grilled chicken breast, apple, 15 baby carrots, one and a half slices of whole wheat bread, box of raisins, a cup of skim milk, and a granola bar. And those are all healthy calories – not empty calories.
      The amount of calories somebody needs a day depends on your basal metabolic rate, degree of muscular activity, and rate of growth. Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) measures the rate at which a body expends under basal conditions like being at rest or in a calm and controlled environment.       Fats

      It’s no wonder people blame their weight on high-fat foods, because 9 calories is in 1 gram of it! But you need a little to have healthy skin and hair. Too many will lead to heart disease and increase in cholesterol.
      There are good fats and bad fats. Monosaturated fats, or unsaturated fats are the good fats in avocados and olives that promote a healthy heart. The help against heart disease.
      But saturated fats contribute to cholesterol and heart problems. It’s mostly in animal products like milk, cheese, ice cream, beef, pork, and chicken. But the amount varies greatly. Like ribs might have 12g saturated fat per 4 oz serving and 2g in a roasted pork tenderloin 4 oz serving.
      Fatty acids in meats like red meat are high in Omega-6, which isn’t as good as the fatty acids in fish which are high in Omega-3. But fish are generally low-fat and low-carb and all-protein when not breaded and fried.
      Trans fat is just as bad as saturated fats. They clog up your arteries. They’re created through hydrogenation, which is a process that turns liquid oils to solids like margarine and shortening. This makes pie crusts flakier and fries crispier.
      Some very high-fat foods are hamburger, nuts, plant oil, whole milk, butter, olives, avocado, and hot dogs.
      I recommend 15-30 grams a day on my diet. It is VERY easy to eat low-fat! There are all sorts of fat free and low-fat products now-a-days. But if your not trying to lose weight, an average American should get about 30% of their calories from fat.
      Fat is flavorful, and it makes our food taste good. But there is lots of other things to flavor your food other than fat. Herbs, spices, seasonings, and vegetables are few of many.

      Carbs

      In 1 gram of carbs, is 4 calories. Carbs are ENERGY! And without ENERGY you become WEAK! Which is why I believe low-carb diets are BOGUS! It is too hard to do and you are too weak and hungry. I have tried it and you feel awful. It can also lead to passing out from your kidneys not getting enough carbohydrates in about 1 month.
      Carbs should make up about 60% of your calorie intake. There are two different kinds of carbs. Simple carbs and Complex carbs.
      Simple carbs are simple sugars. The only kind of simple sugars you should try eat are in fruits, vegetables, and milk. Simple carbs are the kind of carbs you would find in a sugar bowl or an apple. The reason choosing the sugars in a fruit or glass of milk is better is because instead of just straight sugar you are getting fiber, vitamins, and minerals in an apple and you are getting proteins and calcium in milk. Calcium is important to get until you are 20 years old because your body collects as much calcium as it can until you are that age, so you will have healthier bones as an adult. So pack up on calcium when you’re young to have healthier bones! If you don’t like milk then chew 2 Tums tablets everyday. That is more than enough calcium. Simple sugars are junk so they will make you fatter. I recommend no more than 18 grams of sugars a day.
      Complex carbs are also known as starches. They are a better choice over simple carbs. Starches are simple carbs in a LONNNNG chain. So they take longer to break down in your body. Starches are grain products like wheat, rice, crackers, pasta, rice, and oats. Choosing wheat over white bread is a great choice because the wheat bread has fiber and all sorts of nutrients. White bread has been processed, which means its been stripped from all that good fiber. Half of the carbs you get in a day should be whole-grain. The fiber in whole-grain foods like wheat bread, oatmeal, brown rice, and whole-grain flour will keep you fuller than white bread, white rice, and white flour. This is because the fiber in it takes longer to digest than no fiber. So even though a donut and a bowl of oatmeal may have equal calories depending on what you add to the bowl of oatmeal, the bowl of oatmeal will keep you fuller longer. Why? Because the more fiber you get the more calories your body burns trying to burn off the food.

      Proteins

      Like carbs, in 1 gram of protein is 4 calories. Proteins are what makes you grow and they are what makes your body stronger to fight infection. They also keep you full for a while. A piece of lean meat about the size of your hand should be enough protein for a day. You can also find out how many grams you need buy multiplying .04 by your body weight (lbs.) If your active you might need a little bit more. See if you’re a protein over-eater or under-eater.
      Proteins contain important amino acids, which repair your body and produce red blood cells, enzymes, and other tissue.
      Proteins can make you fat too. Think about making a necklace with beads. You have 12 yellow beads, 7 red beads, and 9 blue beads. You are making a pattern of yellow, red, then blue. Eventually you will run out of red beads and you’ll have 5 leftover yellow ones and 2 leftover blues.
      Well your body works the exact same way. Different foods have different proteins. And you body uses the proteins to put in a pattern to build your body. But the leftover ones turn to waste until they can be used again whenever you have more of ones that you need to keep the chain going. Makes sense? The food that almost has no leftover proteins are eggs. 15-20% of your calories should come from protein.
      The best place to get protein is in lean meats, but if you are vegetarian you are missing out on a lot! Getting enough protein as a vegetarian the low-fat way can be pretty tricky! Nuts and eggs both have protein but you get a lot of fat from them. And beans will have a lot of protein but you’ll also get a lot of carbs from them.

      TIPS:

      The first step to a successful diet is motivation. It’s not easy giving up eating yummy foods. But you need to make a decision.

      Would you rather loose weight, or keep eating the way you do?

      1. Keep a journal. Date it. Whenever you wake up in the morning, write down what you ate, when you ate, whom you ate with, where you ate at, etc. And most importantly, the calorie content of the meal. Always count your calories!! And counting your carbs, proteins, and fats along with that is even better! Make sure right when you eat, you write it down in your journal.

      2. Be specific! Instead of writing “bowl of cereal” write: 1 cup of Cheerios with ¾ cup of skim milk. When you eat a sandwich, make sure you include how many slices of meat were on it, the bread, mustard, mayo, and cheese. All of these things can add many calories to your meal.

      3. Make a list of all the reasons you want to lose weight and keep in the front of your special journal. Make sure the list is 15 reasons long at least. And every time you want to indulge in a piece of cake or slice of pizza, read that list. Look in the mirror. Look at a picture of celebrity with a nice body.

      4. It’s hard to keep a journal and to count your calories all by yourself. That’s a lot to think about and is a big headache. There is this wonderful website on the Internet called Fitday where it will count your calories, fats, carbs, and proteins for you! I used it for my journal and I highly recommend it.       5. Count your calories before you eat them. That way you know what you are putting in your body. An even better idea is whenever you wake up; plan everything you will eat to equal exactly how many calories you plan on taking in. Write it on a piece of paper and keep it in your pocket so you remember what to eat.

      6. Write a list of all the bad things you do that you used to do. That you will NEVER go back to doing. Like my bad habits were I would go through an ENTIRE bag of Pizza Combos, which is like 900 calories in 1 sitting. I would drink almost 6 cans of soda a day. I’d have a chocolate milkshake every night before I went to bed. I’d fill my plate 4-5 times at the all you can eat buffet. Read it over and over! Turn yourself off about unhealthy food.

Im eating less, and i might be eating less then 1200 calories or exactly 1200 calories a day. i bench and curl for 15 minutes a day, is that good? what im really looking for is too lose about 40Ibs by the end of this summer and keep it up, it is currently June 21st 1:18 AM, i have asthma, and ive tried the High-intensity interval training, and i literally can only keep it up for maybe 2-4 minutes, i did jumping jacks and my legs felt like they were about to collapse..
    i TRY very hard to go outside everyday for 30-60 minutes, but im usually sitting on the computer all day, then at night, i do my 15 benching, (today i did it at 12:15-12:30)

      I dont think you can lose weight with spot crunches or starving. I think you have got it all wrong. You cant do spot reduction. You can only lose overall weight. The best way is a combination of diet and cardio. Contrary to belief, starving actually makes a person put on weight because ur metabolism reduces. Try to have a good heavy breakfast, a moderate lunch and a light dinner. Dont skip any of these meals. Start running, jogging or walking based on ur comfort level for atleast 30-35 mins everyday. Avoid eating fried stuff, aerated drinks, chocolates and creams and I think you will begin to see the difference.
      I used to pant when I used to climb stairs or run for 1/2 a minute. today I am able to do 10km marathons. This doesnot happen overnight. The key is consistency and discipline. Start small but be consistent and you will surely see results..

    you'll see that i lose weight pretty fast, and i know that its easy to start with and then it will get harder.

    Basically, I weigh 10 stone 12, i'm a size 12-14 and 5"8.

    In five weeks I want to be around 9 and a half stone.

    I'm not prepared to go to the gym because i just have NO time. I'm working full time for the next three weeks so I'm on my feet walking fast for around 70 hours, plus I walk to work and occasionaly jog home from work. I'm getting into my jogging again (I love it) so I'm hoping to jog nearly every day on top of work.

    I've got a work out dvd (Thats bloody hard!) i think i'll do that a couple of times, and i have weights that i think i'll start doing to toe my arms.

      I think it's possible, you just need a strict diet. I've lost around 6 pounds in the last 5 days or so by changing my diet and exercise routine drastically. However, my metabolism is slowing down, and I'll have to eat this way for a while, otherwise I'll gain all the weight back.

      i really dont know, if i were you id go consult a nutritionist.. there are plenty of 'quick and easy' cookbooks around, too :)

      do you have a half hour spare in the evenings to prepare next day's lunch? you could control what you have throughout the day as a start and see what happens.. eg tuna salad with new potatoes is a good one, its pretty much just tossing things into a container and potatoes wont take long.. something you might want to try is getting used to eating smaller portions.. most junk food tbh wont fill you up for long so its kinda hard to do both everyday, i think.. it feels weird at first, but it does help alot.. again, a nutritionist can help you with that.

      personally i like to make 'batches' of food so on the other 2-3 days you just have to warm it up :) cooking a whole chicken/etc maybe at the weekend and adding it to things over a few days is good.. im sure there are websites comparing different fastfood brand products so even if youre eating it youre going for the better ones.. i think livestrong.com has some-?

      you have to understand the way your body works first, then you can jump to conclusions.

      NO, green tea will not help you burn fat. it's filled with anti-oxidants, but it won't burn fat. if it did, please explain how it will, and please explain why everyone drinking green tea out there isn't lean and "fit"?

      anyway, your body usually has major fat storage deposits, and minor deposits. it's totally genetic, and you can't control where you store or burn fat from. if you have just a little fat on your thighs, arms, bust, butt, upper back, and you have a LOT in your stomach and lower back... then the last place your body will burn fat from is you stomach and your lower back. there's nothing you can do about that process except liposuction if you want to SPOT REDUCE fat... cuz nothing else will help.

      jumping back in reality and leaving plastic surgery behind, you have to know how to diet and exercise correctly, to lose fat from your body while staying symmetrical. usually people who don't weight train and just jog and crash diet will lose all their minor fat stores, and be left with major fat stores... so they lose 30-40 lbs, but they end up being thin in the arms, legs, no butt, colar bone sticking out, but they still have a flabby belly.

      you have to weight train, do cardio, diet CORRECTLY (you need to pay money for some good personal trainers to teach you this), and you have to learn how to rest, recover, and be patient. it's not easy... but it's doable. anyone can do it. you jsut have to have some will power on you.

      weight train 3 times per week, hitting each muscle once a week with low volume (6 sets small muscle, 9 sets large muscles).
      keep rep range between 8-12 reps
      lift heavy weights (heavy enough to fail at 12 reps or less)
      do cardio 3 times per week only as a start
      go on an isocaloric ratio of 33/33/33 protein/carb/fat
      make sure you don't go above 13 cals/lb of bodyweight, and not less than 10 cals/lb bodyweight (starting at the higher end is always better)
      split meals evenly throughout the day (if you eat 2000 cals, split it into 5 meals, 400 cals each, 33/33/33 ratio)
      drink a gallon of water per day

    i love her very much, so im not thinking of leaving or anything dumb like that. but i do not want to lose her halfway through life when she gets one of the many diseases or conditions that come from being over weight. she was pretty skinny and healthy when we got married, then she had a baby, that did not help at all. almost everyone in her family is overweight and has health issues, but i cannot seem to motivate her. most of the time i do not say anything about it because i do not want to push her away or make her feel unwanted. i just try to get her to go play tennis with me and things like that. and usually she does, but lately she seems to be low on energy. and also, i am sorry if this is too much (i've seen a lot worse on yahoo answers), but she is never on top when we make love. i don't really think she would go that fast, and she wouldn't last long. i prefer mature advice, from true christians.

      You may want to just tell her flat out. Sometimes that's all it takes.

      I got fat for a little bit between my 5th and 6th kid. It was super depressing... I didn't want to do anything. My husband told me pretty much everyday that I was fat and that did the trick. I lost all of it and then some. He was such a douchebag that I ran like hell every night and that did the trick.

      I would suggest that you take a nicer approach obviously but keep in mind that we don't always notice how fat we are getting... sometimes all it takes is someone else saying something.

      Actually weight training makes you gain weight. BUT... It' s healthy weight. You see muscle weighs 2 times as much as fat.
      Some exersizes you can do include:
      pushups
      handstands on the wall
      situps
      One other thing that I find really works is if you lie on your back then pull up your uperbody leaving your lower back on th efloor. You should hold it there for about 30 seconds.

      Professionals will tell you that there is no such thing as targeted weight loss and this is true. You have to tone the ENTIRE body and lose the excess fat in order to be a better you.

      Size 38C is NOT too large. In fact that's a size that many women pay big bucks at the plastic surgeon's to get. Maybe it's not the size, but the confidence that needs work.

      Forget what you see in the magazines and on television. Every woman is different and our body shapes are unique. The ones you see in publications have been airbrushed. Their legs and necks have been lengthened by computers, they have hair extentions and thousands of dollars of beauty procedures.

      I know what you're going through, I am not able to diet very easily. What I do is i change breakfast and dinner for a smoothie of blended fruit and a yoghurt, enough to fill you up, because it keeps you full for longer and your less likely to snack, and it helped me lose weight too. it does take time, but i've lost a few stone using that idea, and i still eat chocolate and stuff like that :)

    I am 18 years old in college and 200 pounds and a guy who is 5'7", just FYI. I have been struggling with my weight for quite some time now. Last semester, I put a lot of hard work into it, and it certainly helped, but not enough. Then, over the holiday break, without good cooking options (long story), I was restricted to fast foods; furthermore, I couldn't get to a gym. So I lost a lot of my work I had done. I know I need to persevere and work even harder, but I have started thinking about fasting in order to aid me with this process.

    I've been told that fasting pretty much resets your metabolism, and weight loss becomes much easier to facilitate, especially with changes in appetite. I am seriously considering this sometime in the near future.

    1. Has anyone ever fasted before?
    2. Do you know anyone who's fasted before?
    3. How long should I fast in order to achieve desired results?
    4. What should I supplement myself with? Obviously lots of water, but what kinds of juice or vitamins?

    Can I still drink green tea? I am addicted to caffeine, and I am unwilling to quit it. I have even quit caffeine before for about 3 months, but you can noticeably tell a difference, and with life the way it is, I need to be alert and energized.

      No no no no dude don't fast you've got it all wrong. Fasting gains weight. If you eat several healthy meals a day, it will be your best results. Fasting can be almost worse than eating junk food, depending how much you fast and how much junk you were eating before. You see, when the body senses you aren't eating any food, it stores more fat than before, thinking you might starve and is just going into natural self preservation. Fasting is also not healthy for your body and caused malnutrition. So for weight loss just eat healthy foods and exercise often, dont' be critical on yourself, stay with it, and be positive!     Hello, basically, even though I am overweight, i'm quite healthy. I'm trying to lose the extra weight by eating healthier and walking everywhere. I walk to and from work every day(about a mile each way) and haven't used a bus for about a year. Also, I like to dance a lot and generally keep active.
    I feel fine most the time, but every two months or so, my body starts to ache REALLY BAD when I do any form of small exercise. My legs seize up and my back has a crippling pain. Makes it hard for me to do anything active for days (Although I have to, just to get around and live normally). I really can't walk with a straight back when this happens and can't walk as fast as i'd like. I generally limp to the side. I'm not out of breath or anything though.

    Any idea what this is? Doe's anybody else get this? Tried googling it, but no real results come up. PLEASE HELP. I should really see a doctor and will do if it carries on

      What IS emo skinny? It's like saying all skinny people are emo. Weird.

      Anyways, three minutes a day is not going to make you lose 40 lbs. Exercising turns fat into muscle which weighs more than fat. You're going to need a lot more than 3 minutes. I think you should just shape up because when you exercise, some of that excess fat will come off but there will also be muscle. I think getting into shape would be a better option. Abs, obviously do crunches. Start by doing ten, then gradually go to twenty and so on--it's a good starter.
      Vegetarian, good for you. You should make sure you're getting the right vitamins and such, eat iron rich foods and drink vitamin C rich drinks because that'll help your body take in the iron. But all in all, make sure you're getting the right stuff, if you plan on changing your mind and just get into shape rather than 'getting skinny' make sure you take in a lot of leafy greens to make up for the iron you lost because you're not eating meat. Drink a lot of water and cut down on soda. Cutting down on unnecessary sugars will really help especially soda which is already bad for you.

      You don't really seem dedicated to getting fit because it takes a lot more than just three minutes to lose weight and it won't be easy. I think maybe you just make sure you're going to motivate yourself while doing whatever you decide on doing to lose your fat.

      I also suggest learning how to spell, maybe read some books while on the treadmill?

      Yes you are way below the normal healthy ranges for someone of your size. This "Starvation diet" will force to lose more muscle and the body will tend to store more fat as a safety precaution leaving you looking flabby. Here are my recommendations to find a healthy daily caloric intake:

      First you must estimate the minimal amount of calories you need for basic survival (resting metabolic rate or RMR). Simply take a healthy body weight that you feel comfortable at and multiply it by 10. Next add about 50% more calories for daily activity or 40% if it is mostly sedentary or 60% if it is more physically demanding.

      Then add another 400 calories for workout days of 40 minutes in duration and another 100 calories for every additional 10 minutes of exercise on top of that. Finally, for a healthy weight loss subtract 20 percent from your total thus far. So, in your example - for a healthy weight of 180lbs: 1800 RMR + 400 daily activity + 400 exercise =2600 total calories – 400 for weight loss
      = 2200 total daily calories!

      how old is ur dog?? is it just thats shes getting old?? i feel so sorry, cuz its hard to loose a dog..so close. Does ur dogs eyes look glazy-not clear?? usually that is a sign ur dog ha cataracts...which it could loose its sight, and it that point, they dont feel like doing anything. Another thing is its stomach might have turned around....my parent had a rottweiler 2 when i was younger, and then dog actually died cuz of that..a tragic story for my dad, well, actually the dog had to be put down in the back of my dads truck. If the dog wont eat too...its a good sign the stomach fliped...it happens when they eat something too fast..which is very easy for a dog to do. Check her eyes, then take her into a dif. vet, and check her stomach....usually the vet catch it too late, and ur dog will die from it.HOPE I HELPED!!! and, hope everything work out

      dont drink fizzy drinks at all, you can do the fast food thing but soda is so bad! it also bloats your stomach becuase off the gas in it!

      i think your going the right way

      eat apples there full of pectin which really helps weight loss
      eat chicken and tuna there high in protein which is amzaing for weight loss
      milk helps build up your body
      drink water
      drink green tea or herbal or fruit tea.

      also you should get a hula hoop they burn 100 calroies in 10 mins!

      i would suggest to cut out soda and fast food completely until you reach your goal weight.

      and instead of doing crunches (which don't really work) you should do 30-40mins of cardio like running/jogging/walking.

      count your calories every single day. you should consume between 1200-1400 cals a day.

      and try hard not to eat after 7pm. you dont want food sitting in your stomach while your sleeping.

      and you are very lucky to be only 14 and have a fast metabolism because if you were 19/20 and eating and drinking the way you do now you'd probably be 20 lbs heavier.

    Hello Yahoo Answers. I come to you today with a desperate plea for help. Let's start with the basics.

    I'm Fifteen and a Half. And I weigh 270 pounds. I am driven to and from school every day and am in weight lifting where I do some running but often CAN not run because of my Asthma and my leg which has been broken four times in the same spot. My eating habits are less than healthy. But only because I can not cook and no one will cook for me. So I am FORCED to eat fast food if I want to eat. I do not like being over-weight. I live with my Grandmother do to complications and she WILL not let me go out running and what not if I wanted too. She won't let me walk to school because 'it's too far'. BUT she is always nagging me to lose weight. So I'm stuck.

    What do I do?

      Honestly one of the best things to do if you have to eat out is get the more healthy things on the menu, you can get a list of all the nutrition value for any fast food place online. If you can't cook maybe when your grandmother gets groceries she can get some fresh fruit or veggies (they are great snacks) Then for exercise what really helps if you can't go running is get an aerobic/cardio dvd to work out to. One I found really works for me is Billy Blanks (he does the Tae-Bo workouts). Some people don't realize but it is the best way to lose weight not just going to the gym lifting weights cause that just builds up what you already have it doesnt help much with losing it. I also have Asthma and I am able to do these workouts if you wondered about that, they are not too hardcore.

    So yeeah, I'm looking to lose some weight. I'm not that heavy or anything, just a bit more than I want. But I really know nothing about diets, so I call upon the people of Yahoo Answers!

    Here's the thing though: I'm 14. I'd really prefer not to screw over my developing body, so that means no crazy crash diets or anything, and probably it just helps you to know my age anyways.

    So yeah, I don't see any glaring flaws in my intake. I usually have Post Shredded Wheat for breakfast, no sugar/topping or anything. That's not even a new thing I put in to lose weight, I just like the taste of it anyway compared to like Trix and whatnot which is kind of disgusting. I think we have 2% fat milk at my house usually... anyway. I only drink water, besides milk for breakfast, which is something relatively new I've been doing: past couple of months or so. I used to drink a lot of juice, but I never really liked soda. I was able to give up the juice pretty easily though, so pretty much all I drink is water.

    For lunch I typically have a sandwich. Me pops gets pretty nice meat from the deli, so that's probably not a problem- turkey, pastrami, ham and swiss/provolone, etc. And then I usually have some fruit- some slices of apple, peach, banana, etc. I don't really have snacks in-between meals, except occasionally a banana or other fruit, so I also doubt that's a problem. I stopped eating crackers, cookies, that sort of snack thing. I was on Triscuits for a while, which were good, but I haven't been having as many recently. I dunno if that's a good or bad thing- I think they're somewhat healthy, but probably beat out by fruit.

    For dinner my mom usually cooks, as she's a pretty good cook. This varies a lot- chicken, pasta, fish, meat, soup, etc. I can't really give many specifics, because it is pretty random. Overall nothing that's incredibly unhealthy though, we have fried stuff once a blue moon, and fast food every few years at most. We typically have fresh bread (IE not package bread, baguettes and whatnot), and cheese on the table as well. (Cheese as in large blocks, not slices). I usually have a slice or two of bread- I cut out on putting butter on it though, just have it plain, so that probably helps a lot. And I usually have a couple slices of cheese. Maybe I should cut down on that.

    That usually lasts me until I decide to sleep, except for maybe a banana or something if I'm pretty hungry. Bananas are very convenient.

    As something to note, every Friday we order pizza. I imagine this is pretty unhealthy. Not much I can do about this though, except maybe have some fruit beforehand and just have a few less slices. I usually have 4, I could easily cut it down to 3, maybe 2 if I had something beforehand.

    As far as exercise goes, I lift weights in our basement every other day. I lift 35 pounds 10 times in 5 positions, so 50.. lifts I guess. I have no idea what the positions are called. But basically, 10 arm curls standing, 10 reverse arm curls (correct term?) standing, 10 lifting it over my head from sitting, 10 lifting it behind my head over my head from sitting, and 10 bench press (right term?). I do it every other day because apparently it's not good to do it every day. So if you could give me some exercises to do on off days that would help. Maybe leg exercises? Or something. I'd prefer them to be indoor. It'd just make it a lot easier for me, I'd rather not make this into a big thing and get my parents involved. So yeah. I could do crunches or something. I also have a trampoline: maybe I could jump for a good half hour or something every day.

    I also go swimming fairly often for a good 45 minutes doing laps. I'd say every other day to every third day I go. (1/2 to 1/3 of the time...days). So that's good. Maybe I could make it everyday.

    I guess that covers it. I do like video games, so I'd imagine the problem is more lack of exercise than dietary stuff. But still, any healthy eating tips ya got are appreciated.

    But mainly I'm looking for some good indoor exercise solutions! I much prefer to work hard for half an hour to pacing myself for two hours though, so if you have anything like that, it'd be great. I'm more looking to lose fat than build muscle, but I guess that's good too... still a second priority though. I can work on a six-pack later, now I just want to lose some weight!

      Eat around 5 small meals a day. Fruits, veggies, and lean meats(turkey, ham, chicken, etc.) Breakfast should be something like
      egg whites, special k with fruit, etc. Lunch could consist of food like a wrap with lean meat and veggies. Dinner should be filling but its better for you to eat before 7:00. Snacks should be fruits and veggies

      Excersize:
      You can do a lot of fun things to be healthy like biking and playing with your pets. Do as much as you can. I love doing squats and sit ups using dumbbells. Also my dad has a planet fitness membership and he's allowed to bring me to his gym so there are a lot of choices there! Ask your mom or dad to see if they want to invest in a gym membership.

    Do Whey Protein and Creatine REALLY help with weight loss?
    I'm 6'0", 274 lbs. (as of May 1) and I've decided to get into shape once and for all. I've done this many times before (been as low as 205 as recently as 3 years ago) but this time I'm going to keep it off. I'm not getting any younger and it gets tougher to stay in shape the older you get. Over the years I've never taken any suppliments for weight loss. Aside from a multi vitamin every morning all I did was change my diet and exercise. Now that I'm 31, the weight isn't coming off as quickly as it used to...big surprise there. So I've been to multiple places like GNC, and other nutrition and vitamin shops and they all tell me basically the same thing: "Creatine and Whey Protein are what you need dude!!! You'll be ripped!!!" The problem with that is when I lost weight in the past, I was already ripped. Strip away all the fat and anybody looks "ripped." I've read on websites about the pros and cons and so forth but when I call these guys up to get a little more detail, they just repeat themselves My goal is to lose 70 lbs. by the end of the year and get back to my "fighting weight" of 205. Will creatine and whey protein HONESTLY help me accomplish this faster? You will also have flabby skin because of the fast weight loss.

    If you want to get your body into great shape, you have to be patient. There is no miracle cure. You can either decide to be lazy or work hard to get your body into shape. You must have a good exercise program that includes cardio and weight lifting and your diet needs to be healthy. This means cut out the junk and get the proper amount of nutrients.

      Gaining muscle takes the same amount of focus and preparation as
      losing weight. Some important facts about gaining muscle:

      •You can't necessarily gain muscle without gaining some fat as well.
      •There are no magic foods, powders or pills that will allow you to
      gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. Some people can do this
      naturally (again, the genes), but most will gain some fat along with
      the muscle
      •Your body is very different from a bodybuilder--trying to gain mass
      to look like them is not the best idea. They have different muscle

My aim is to be able to do at least 10 pullups by 6 months and a 6 pac. I am student. So i would like to ask you guys about time arrangement gym/study, effective gym workout, weight loss and healthy diet.
    Firstly, effective gym workout. Normally, when I gym, I started with abs workout using machine and then train my arms with some machine. Rest around a minute or less before continuing. Then afterwards i did the one which trains back muscles, pullling the weights to my chest(that type of workout). Then, I did the one which i lie down and did something like a barbell but I push it up and down(With pulley aid, the one that trains chest). And after wards some assisted pull ups. Then I will rest, repeat for 1h plus. Afterwards, I will run on the treadmil for 8 mins running 1.6km(to lose weight). Is this a correct workout to train muscles and lose weight to get to my goal stated above?

    Secondly, about weight loss and healthy diet. Normally, breakfast, I had 2 eggs and a cup of milo. Lunch, I normally had fish soup. Dinner, normally chicken rice. Or something like that. Can somebody tell me what to abstain? Because sometimes I had tea breaks and supper. I don't eat fast food, except for subway;D So what food to abstain and points to take note for healthy diet? And also how to lose weight? Is my gym workout a good workout to lose weight? I also swim once a week. Around 10 laps of freestyle in around 12-15mins. And 2 to 4 sprinting laps.

      Can you take about 30-45 minutes a day to jog 3 miles? Don't push it.
      just a simple jog. Try run 3 minutes, walk 1, run, walk, etc.

      Watch your intake. Cut down on flour based foods (pretzels, chips, pasta, sugar)...cut out diet sodas as well....substitute water and fruits. Read the label on what you eat to check for carbs. Aim for about 50-75 per meal.

      Weigh in same time every AM before breakfast...just to check where you are....It won't happen overnight...but it will. Slow loss, is better than fast.

      i've recently decided to lose some weight, and this has helped me lose it fairly quick. i usually do breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. all healthy snacks of course. breakfast would be oatmeal, or cereal. lunch is tuna, or a salad with grilled chicken strips. snack would be half a cup of chex mix or a protein bar. protein bars are good for filling you up. dinner is usually a smart ones or lean cuisine meal. and my last snack is usually half a cup of chex mix or diet desserts, like skinny cow ice cream sandwiches or smart ones cookie dough sundaes. for drinks i only drink water, crystal light, or diet sodas. i dont work out a lot but i noticed just changing my diet really helped and im now a lot closer to my goal weight. good luck!

      a few simple tricks are
      FORGET about juice and soda. most juices are FULL of sugar
      and labels are very tricky. juice concentrate is useless to you and basically another word for sugar. if you love juice though check in the refrigerated section (cuz if it contains real juice it wouldn't be able to stay in the center section w/o spoiling) typically all you can have is OJ though.

      also fruits are an easy way to satisfy sweet tooth cravings. esp since its berry season in the summer.

      i ballooned up bec. of the freshmen 15 (and then some) in college and had to do some damage control.

      make simple attainable goals. for instance i told myself i would at least do cardio three times a week. anything else i looked at as bonus such as weight training and yoga. try to mix it up with cardio tapes, jogging, biking, etc.

      set external goals besides the scale like increased conditioning and so forth. oh and also some monetary incentive doesn't hurt. i told myself with for the total amount of lbs lost i would multiply that by two. that number would be my magic dress number. so with that number i would splurge into my savings and buy a dress. so if i only lost ten lbs X 2 and i could only use dollars to buy a dress but if you lost thirty then we were getting some where :D

      also finding a friend to join you, that is serious is good. but i have never been able too so it always becomes a tease. since it is sooooooo much more fun to do it with a friend.

      You need to include fruits, and more vegetables into your meal. Otherwise, it should be fine, seeing that you cannot afford more nutritious meals.

      Don't stress out too much. No body will eat you if you don't answer fast enough (i hope not...)

      Maybe spend a little less time on the computer, but if you need to use it for a dictionary, it is fine.
      I think you need to exercise more. Get out of the house, and jog or fast walk for a while. Exercising will help you. Also do push ups and sit ups, etc.

      I would recommend drinking a lot of water! The recommended amount of water intake per day is 64 ounces (or 4 water bottles). Drink water all the time. In the morning, afternoon, and night. Make sure you drink water during meals too. This way, you'll fill up on water and won't eat as much. Also, I watched a youtube video that said that you can lose 10 pounds in a week by drinking all 64 ounces of water every day. I don't know if this is true, but it's worth a try.

      I would also recommend a lot of exercise. *In order to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you eat* So exercise a lot (running, biking, etc..) and eat right. Cut of sugar, carbs, and some dairy and meat products because they contain a lot of fat.

    I could lose weight fast my having 300 calories per day and doing an hours exercise before breakfast lunch or dinner, or i could do it the healthy way eating 1,000 calories and doing an hours exercise before breakfast lunch and dinner.
    but to be honest, I DON'T CARE ABOUT HEALTHY. Ive already fucked up my body from anorexia and bulimia in the past, and all i care about is losing this weight as quick as possible because it ruins my life.
    Im not happy with just 2 lbs per week. that's something i couldn't handle.

      1. First start by getting up earlier than usual. Around 5:30 AM to do some of you workouts. Getting up early shocks your metabolism because the body needs more energy to get going. Right? This will start your system on the road to weight loss. That early start with about 10 minutes of stretching. Have a cup of coffee to get the blood going also.

      2. Do all the sit-ups you can. Just do them. 15 or 20 whatever, we don't have a lot of time to work with. Rest 1 minute repeat, do this for 6 sets. Already you are breathing hard and feel worn, because the body is working extra hard at being up earlier and then going right into exercise. If the early morning hour lets you get your cardio in, go ahead and do it. 30 minutes.

      3. Diet. Cut all current meal portions in half, just cut them in half, nothing fancy or complicated, CUT IN HALF! Cut out all bread products, all gravies, candies, chips, night snacks, etc. If you crave at night eat a banana, other fruit or best a non-fat yogurt. There are some tasty ones out there.

      4. In the evening do another 6 sets of sit-ups maxing out each set. Cardio again. The trick is to stay with getting up earlier. Yes it’s hard, that’s why it is so effective. Why do you think the Army gets up so early, it is intense training to the max.

      There are 2 categories of workouts and you only need to focus on one of those for weight loss.

      1. Resistance training - weight lifting, sit-ups, push-ups, etc.

      2. Cardiovascular Training - walking/running, swimming, jumping jacks, dancing to the oldies, etc.

      You need only to focus on #2 for weight loss. #1 is good for muscle tone but does little for weight loss.

      Cardiovascular exercises are simple and you don't need any fancy equipment. For successful weight loss, all you need to do is any body movements that get your heart rate higher than normal. That's what cardiovascular workouts are all about. They simply get your heart rate up and burn off fat.

      You will need to keep your heart rate up for longer than 20 minutes per session in order to achieve a successful burn. The body takes that much time to warm up and begin the burn. Any huffy-puffy activity will work such as walking, running, going up and down stairs, vigorous dancing, jumping rope, just anything that makes you huff and puff. That's the key - huff and puff for over 20 minutes a session. This is how your body burns off fat.

      CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FOR ADVICE ON THE SAFEST WORKOUT FOR YOU.

      Don't get discouraged!

      Contrary to popular TV, there is no such thing as "targeting" an area of your body for weight loss. The reality is that you will see the fattest part of your body lose weight last! You will notice it first in your face. The thickest fat is the last to go so don't lose heart if you don't see your “targeted area” going anywhere at first.

      A bland diet will speed the weight loss up for sure. But if you're like me, starting a daily exercise program plus starting a bland diet is just too emotionally stressful (wink, wink). So, I say, for those of us who want some type of reward for working out everyday, continue enjoying your favorite foods - just cut your portions down. Train yourself to learn when you are satisfied as you eat a meal and stop eating at that point rather than eating until you feel full. You'll be surprised at how early in the meal you are satisfied. So, just stop eating at that point. Make a habit of it.

      I am a 52 year old male and I am using a programmed treadmill which uses a combination walk/ 5 mph. run workout for 30 minutes a day. I am losing 2-3 pounds a week just doing that and cutting my favorite food portions back the way I mentioned before. My peak heart rate during this routine is 140. (Just telling you this in hopes that it will give you some idea of what 30 minutes a day will do for you so you can adjust your workout to suit your targeted weight loss time frame.)

      Do active work around the house such as vacuuming, mowing the grass, raking leaves, taking out the trash or walking the dog.

    and basically it says to eat 2 servings of raw fruits/veggies and 1 scoop of soy protein before every meal and then only have like 200 calorie meals and stuff. so my diet would look something like this:

    upon waking: 16 oz ice cold water
    breakfast: 8 strawberries, 1 banana, 1 scoop soy protein
    snack: red bell pepper, 1 stalk celery, 1 tbsp hummus
    lunch: baby carrots, 1 apple, 1 scoop soy protein...and then salad: 1 Cup spinach, 1/2 Cup romaine, 1/4 Cup cucumber and 1/2 Cup chickpeas with 1/2 Tbsp olive oil and 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
    afternoon snack: 1/2 cup blackberries, 1/2 cup raspberries
    dinner: 1 orange, 1 Cup watermelon, 1 scoop soy protein and then... 1/2 cup boca "ground beef", 1/2 cup black beans and 1/4 cup tomatoes and chiles over 1 1/2 Cups spinach

    i'll also be drinking at least 64 oz of ice water every day...and taking a multivitamin and a b12 supplement.

    as far as workouts go, i'll work out in the morning before i eat anything. i'll do this workout dvd that i got called "45 minute cardio" or something like that. its put out by Elle magazine. i'll also be walking around 3 miles each day. when i get home from vacation (about 2 weeks before school starts) i'll have access to a treadmill, elliptical, bowflex, free weights, etc. so i'll be using those for an hour or two every day. and i'll also have band camp for 8 hours a day, so it'll be like 6 hours or so of marching in the heat.

    as of now, i'm 16 years old, 5'2'' and 145 pounds. my bmi is 26.5, which is considered overweight. i'd like to get to around 120 pounds so my bmi would be about 22.

    so yeah, if i did all that, how much weight would i lose before september 1st??

      I wouldn't trust any diet based around eating that much soy protein (or anything else for that much). Good nutrition is based on eating a veriety of foods and eating one thing at every meal (especially highly processed foods like soy protein) is questionable. And 1013 calories is too little you should be aiming for no less then 1200 (and possibly more if you are active).

    as far as exercising goes, i have a treadmill, elliptical, bike, stair step machine, bowflex and free weights. so i'd be doing around 1-1.5 hours of cardio (probably like uphill walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, elliptical for 30 minutes, and maybe the stair step for 30 minutes) and at least 30 minutes of weight training, a mixture of bowflex and free weights. i also have a very nice town for riding bikes, and there's a route that my family takes that is about 14 miles long and has some pretty big hills near the middle, so i might be doing that a couple times a week too.

    so will that help me lose weight? how much weight can i lose before the 1st?

      Okay, so I am guilty of not reading everything, but, the South Beach Diet is easy, and if you stick to it, you can lose 7-15 in 2 weeks, and reach your goal weight in 6 months to a year. It's also alot healthier than many other diets.

      Losing 1-2lbs a week is the best way to go. This way, you are losing mostly fat, rather than water and muscle. Faster weight loss is not better, nor is it sustainable.

      Diet should be what you look at first for weight loss- this is what will enable you to drop fat. Try a balanced diet made up of mostly natural whole foods, with high protein, moderate carbs and moderate fats.

      You need to know how many calories you burn- you can use an online calculator for a rough estimate. Aim for 10-20% calories fewer than you burn daily (too large a deficit will be counterproductive in the longer term).

      Don't worry about complicated diets or cutting things out. You can enjoy anything in moderation, as long as the majority of your diet is healthy.

      Base your meals around:

      Lean protein (e.g. chicken, tuna, lean beef, fat-free cottage cheese, egg whites)
      Wholegrains (e.g. wholewheat bread, oats, bran cereals, rice)
      Healthy fats (e.g. nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocado, salmon, whole eggs, flaxseed)
      Fruit and veg

      And drink lots of water.

      Second in importance to diet, is heavy resistance training- this is what will allow you to preserve muscle so you look 'toned' and defined once you've dropped the fat (rather than just a smaller version of how you look now, with the same bits you're unhappy with). More muscle also means a higher metabolism, so you definitely want to hold on to, or increase the muscle base you have, for fat loss.

      You need to work ALL your major muscle groups- you can't spot reduce.

      Then you can look at extras like cardio to help create a calorie deficit. But cardio is by far the least important of these three, and you can lose fat effectively without it.

      Make sure you're getting at least one rest day a week with no exercise at all.

      okay, first and foremost: do NOT obsess over losing weight. you will be sucked into an eating disorder and never be able to return fully from that. lose weight to be healthy, not to look pretty... once you lose 50 lbs, you will only obsess over something else you hate about yourself. you shouldn't worry about what the scale says, but how much healthier you feel.

      to lose weight, drink a lot more water. take your weight, divide that in half and that should be how many fl oz of water you drink. it sounds like you are eating right, smaller frequent meals are good, but make sure you eat them balanced... you NEED carbs, do not be disillusioned into thinking that you will be skinny if you don't eat them. eat a balance of everything, try to eat as much fresh food as possible... more fruits, vegetables and anything fresh.

      keep exercising the way you are, it's great that you have gotten in better shape already. take at least a few days off a week, otherwise your body will be under too much stress. increase your fast walking to a jog and use the incline on the treadmill.

      i recommend training for something, like 5k, to try to give you motivation to reach a certain point in your workout instead of worrying about how many calories you lose. it distracts you and makes you feel accomplished.

      be patient, losing weight does not happen over night, it takes hard work and determination. make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons (health!) and not because you think you are ugly (you probably aren't).

    I'm scared I'm not going to lose weight?
    My diet is fine, it's healthy, no junk food or useless fat. I'm still overweight, I'm trying to lose weight. Right now I've just started bicycling 7.7 miles a day. That takes about an hour. I did this calorie calculator thing online and I'm burning some calories but I'd like more. I feel like this won't cut it. And it isn't a question of if I can do more, because I definitely can. I'm just wondering if it would be better to do 3 one hour sessions of 7.7 miles(or more as I may increase on my speed/distance this way) a day. So roughly 23 miles a day or more. Maybe one day a week where I do less(but no breaks). I'm sure that I can do this as I find that whenever I am done with my bike rides and worn out, I feel like I can start again soon after. Should I do 3 hour sessions a day of this? I'm so worried that doing what I'm doing now won't help me lose weight fast enough.

      I know that this might sound a little weird, but it is very possible that you are consuming too few calories. If this is not the case though, try changing your exercise routine up a bit (in other words, try working different muscle groups.) And remember, taking a day or 2 off a week is just as important as the exercise its self.

    Well Lately for the last 2 weeks I haven't lost even one pound at all not even one!!!

    I started my diet 3 months ago approx. and Ive lost 25 pounds from 234 to 209 but Ive been stuck at 209.

    I limit my diet to 1500 calories a day mostly meat few fruits and lots of lettuce. I drink only water or koolaid occasionally i cut out all soda and other drink I only drink pure water no sports drinks.

    Im sure my calorie intake is between 1200 to 1500 daily max. and Im working out 3 times a week weight lifting my complete body for 1 hour minimum and my body is extremely sore the day after so I know im working out well. Also I punch a boxing bag for 30 minutes for 3 times a week. I ride bicycle every day minimum 1 hour and somedays for upto 2 hours 1 hour in the morning then one hour in the evening.

    I know on an avg day Im burning 3000 calories I keep my metabolism up by eating a lot of lettuce between meals and I even keep my meals to about 400-500 calories each and eat about 4 meals a day avg and lots of lettuce in between.

    My situation is that for the first 2 months I only rode bike and I was losing weight fast about 3 pounds a week or so avg but ever since i started lifting weights I got stuck at 209.

    I have seen improvements though I see a lot more definition and size all around my body has improved muscle wise. My weight though is steadily at 209 My normal weight is about 190-195 because i have really big shoulders and I have a wide body or large frame persay,

    Everything ive read though says that you cannot lose fat and build muscle at the same time because your body is either catabolic or anabolic. What should I do stop lifting weights? until i get my body fat down? or keep lifting and stay on my diet and my body fat will gradually go down?? the thing is I have a very high protein diet Im consuming average between 65-120 grams of protein daily eating only lean meats.

    Please give as much educated ideas as you have I'm going to stay on my diet regardless Im just hesitant about lifting weights because it seems like i havent lost weight lately but my arms are all veiny now and my back is very defined so I know lifting weights is helping but theres so much conflicting info online errr sorry for teh LOOOONG thread.jeeez
    Well I run about once a week but my shins arent that strong so I run about 3 miles but I usually get shin pain that lasts about 4 days so i just use teh bicycle i use both stationary usually half an hour after i lift weights then about an hour outside also. I personally dont believe the body is either in a catabolic or anabolic state for the whole day I think if you eat lots of protein muscle should be able to grow and if theres little fat and calories you should be able to lose fat from your body. Theres so much conflict in the stuff people say online though where many people say you can't do both at the same time. All I know for sure is that the mirror and my girlfriend have told me that lifting weight has improved my muscle mass my arms are all veiny and theres a lot of definition all around my body I'm hoping that just losing 10 pounds of fat will get my 6 pack showing my stomach is already getting a little definition from my sixpack but theres still abotu 1" of fat on my belly

I participate in the activities such as basketball, football, floor hockey, but never up for a straight-mile run. I hate learning. I'm really shy when I talk to people. I don’t really go out anymore. I don’t talk to friends that I met since elementary. When I chill around with a group of friends at school, I never participate during there conversations/group talk. I like doing projects, work, etc. alone where I can depend on myself to get the work done.
    Am I depressed? I don’t feel sad at all. I never had suicidal thoughts. When I get in a laughter mood I don’t feel like I’m in the down-low anymore. I got call of duty with xbox 360 in late January, I joke around and talk to people probably more online then in real life.

    Now I'm trying to get myself back together, weight first so I can get motivated.

      What your feeling is completely natural.
      Your body operates differently to different changes in your lifestyle.
      Those that socialize on a daily basis don't seem to have a problem communicating and socializing because the receptors in your brain that create your social awareness are always connecting and your awareness is of natural confidence.

      When you don't socialize as much these receptors don't connect as much and eventually try blocking each other out, which means it becomes alot more difficult to socialize or be that person you used to be so the after effects of this can usually be depression or social anxiety.

      Your best off talking to your doctor about this problem, he will professionally indicate the potential problems and help you out in the long run.

      Your 16, you will go through many stages of your teenage life putting on weight amongst other natural occurances. And depression can either cause weight gain or weight loss depending on your body type but your young, you can rectify this, easily!

      Start talking to people, involve yourself more in conversations and make your voice heard.
      Chances are you'll gain more self-respect from others listening to you then if you would you listening to them.
      Find some groups for the summer you can join, gaming groups or local groups in your community that offer activities you can participate in and socialize with other people.

      That way you'll have something to put your mind towards and give yourself time to prepare yourself for a big change.

      Try getting a Nintendo Wii, you can do many physical activities which do get you sweating after a while and are proven to help you loose weight.
      Get some weights for your bedroom, work out when you wake up and after you eat, eat the right food, foods like beef, chicken and eggs are great sources for protein and carbohydrates and take a regular walk around your neighborhood everyday, you'll burn quite a few calories if you walk as fast as you can, bring your MP3 player with you too, that way you won't be taken off concentration by walking and instead, concentrating on the music your listening to.

      EX. of my diet

      7:30am Oatmeal with a banana and a protein shake
      10:30am 1whole egg plus 5 egg whites in a oatbran/flax wrap and a fat free yogurt
      12:30 subway - footlong turkey on wheat with veggies and fat free honey mustard
      3:30 protein shake plus a piece of fruit
      5:30 protein shake or meal replacement bar
      7:30 eggs again plus yogurt or a turkey wrap plus fruit
      9:30 grilled or baked chicken breast with salt free garlic and herb seasoning w/steamed veggies and fatfree butter spray
      or a sweet patatoe

      I sometimes add more meals and calories to my diet but this is what I eat when i'm cutting weight. Stay away from added salts and keep your main carb intake to no later than 5-6 PM.
      Eating all day keeps your metabolism going more than eating 2-3 meals a day. Try it out.

      I have been receiving a lot of e-mail lately about diet. In the past, I was never concerned about what I ate. I just went to the gym, trained hard, and that was the extent of my routine. Not until recently did I realize the power diet has over the way your body looks and performs. I believe that diet is at least 75% of the fitness equation. In this article, I'm going to describe in detail what I have learned about diet during my 12-week transition period.
      When to Eat and How Often
      This might sound strange, but you have to eat more often to lose fat and gain muscle. During my transition period, I never ate less than 6 meals a day.
      •Try to eat every 2 to 3 hours.
      •Do not eat complex carbohydrates after 6:00 p.m. or four to five hours before going to bed.
      •Try to eat one gram of protein per pound of lean body mass on lifting days and .8 grams of protein per pound of lean body mass on non-lifting days.
      •Never eat more than 70 grams of protein in one meal.
      Carbohydrates
      When I think of carbohydrates, I think of energy. Carbohydrates supply our bodies with the energy it needs to make it through a workout. Without an adequate supply of carbohydrates, the body goes into carbohydrate deprivation. This is called a state of ketosis (meaning our body is using protein as energy). This is not a good state to be in for long because it will rob the body of muscle tissue in an effort to create energy. On the other hand, if too many carbohydrates are consumed, they convert into stored fat. The idea is to consume just enough carbohydrates to make it through our workouts with sufficient energy. I have broken down carbohydrates into these three categories:
      •Simple carbs: These are sugars, or quick energy. They are absorbed very quickly into the body. Ex. Anything with sugar, also fruit
      •Complex carbs: This is where you get long-term energy for the day. These are long chained carbohydrates that brake down slower, giving us energy over a prolonged period of time. Ex. Oatmeal, potatoes, pasta, rice, breads
      •Fibrous carbs: These are things like vegetables. I think of them as roughage in order to stay regular. Make sure you include them in you later meals when you can't eat complex carbs. They are also a good source of vitamins. Ex. Leafy vegetables like lettuce.
      Protein
      Proteins are the building blocks of our muscles. Without a sufficient amount of protein in our diet, our muscles will not have the raw materials that they need to build up, or even hang on to what is already there.
      Net protein utilization: Not all protein is created equal. Different foods are absorbed more than others. For example, egg white protein is absorbed at 88%. That means we get about 9 eggs to our muscles. On the other hand, chicken breast are absorbed at 68%, meaning we get about 7 breasts to our muscles. It is imported to eat a wide verity of protein foods though; no one protein source has all the amino acids we need.
      •Whey protein (100%): the best source of whey protein is from protein supplements. It is also absorbed very fast by the body, so it is best to take this when your body needs amino acids quickly: like right after a workout or when you first get up in the morning.
      •Egg whites (88%)
      •Fish (78%)
      •Chicken breast (78%)
      •Soy protein: My one bit of advice would be to try and stay away from soy protein. It is not absorbed very well by the body.
      Fats

      Supplements
      Supplements are just that, meaning they are used to supplement your diet, not replace it. Don't ever think of it that way.
      Hierarchy of supplements:
      I developed this hierarchy of supplements based on what I thought were the most important and also by price.
      •1. Proper diet: Without proper diet you are just wasting money on supplements. Start here! Do not think that supplements are going to do it for you alone.
      •2. Multi-vitamin & mineral: It is very important to have all your vitamins & minerals when resistance training. Most of us are lacking in some areas, make it a priority to make this your first supplement.
      •3. Protein powder: It is usually very hard to get all the protein you need from real foods. Powders make it much easier. Also, these powders are absorbed fast by the body making them ideal after workouts or before and after sleep.
      •4. Creatine: This is great for harder workouts. It also makes you muscles hang on to water, giving them a better environment to grow.
      •5. L-glutamine: This is an important amino acid in muscle recovery
      •6. Branch chained amino acid: These are great before and after workouts along with L-glutamine because it gives your muscles all the amino acids it needs to repair and grow.
      •7. ZMA: This helps you release more growth hormone while you sleep, increasing your size and strength.
      •8. Thermogenic: These really help in the fat loss process. They also help you hang on to more muscle while dieting due to the fact you can eat more.

      "The golden hour"
      Remember "The golden hour" because it will make things so much easier for you. "The golden hour" is a window of opportunity we have to get everything we have depleted in our body back in a short amount of time. Think of your muscles as a gas tank: When you workout, you use gas for energy or in this case glucose. After a workout, our muscles are in a unique state. They are able to fill back up very quickly leaving you full for the next workout. If you wait to long, your muscles don't fill back up as easily and the carbs you eat are more likely to be stored as fat. Doing this will also let you take advantage of insulin's muscle building effects from the simple carbs you have ingested. You want to ingest 50-75 grams of simple carbs right after a workout. Also, this is when you want to take your protein shake because it will absorb quickly and supply your muscles with the amino acids that they need.
      Insulin
      This is a very complicated subject, but all we need to know is that insulin can help us build muscle or can make us fat depending on the timing. Insulin is released by the pancreas in response to elevated blood sugar levels. We can achieve a high blood sugar level by ingesting simple carbs. Like "the golden hour" we have a window of opportunity to take advantage of the muscle building effects of the insulin without getting fat. We have about 4 or 5 hours after we workout to take advantage of insulin. If we take in too many simple carbs out of this window, we are very likely to store fat.
      Cheat day
      The theory behind the cheat days is you take one day every 2 weeks to eat anything you want and actually get leaner. It might sound crazy, but it worked for me. When you eat low carbs for a time for body begins to think it is not getting all the food it needs (because your not storing any fat) and begins to slow down your metabolism. When you bombard your body with food on that one day, it tricks your body into thinking it has all it needs and speeds your metabolism back up. I can tell you from experience, every day after a cheat day I felt leaner and looked better.
      Ketosis
      This is when your body uses protein for energy. This happens when we have too few carbs in the body or when we over train. I went into the state of ketosis for only the last week of my 12-week transition for a couple of reasons: (1) I wanted all of my muscles to shrink down so when I carbed back up, my skin would be tighter. (2) When you go into ketosis it seems to bring the water out from under the skin. Don't go into this state to loose fat. Without carbs your body can not burn fat effectively. You will loose weight rather quickly, but only because you don't have as much glycogen in the muscle. Also, you are simply loosing water. Remember that proteins are the building blocks for muscle and that means they are fair game for energy when in the state of ketosis. I would not recommend going into this state unless you are trying to get into a super ripped state for a short amount of time, like for a bodybuilding contest.

But i dont wanna have to go up to 1900 calories and start from there. Thats too many calories and way too much food for me to eat.       Low carb will help you gain lean tissue & trim excess fat *if* you don't have a calorie deficit. A low calorie diet will definitely make you lose lean tissues. Lower your carbs, not your calories if you want to release excess fat. The body will protect fat stores if there's insufficient nutrition.

      Studies have shown that some people can gain fat stores even on a semi starvation diet of 1000 calories a day - if it's composition is high carb, low fat. So obviously, calories aren't the key to fat loss.

      the first one is called the bicycle.
      you lay down on ur back with ur feet up and knees bent. then u rotate sides pulling ur left elbow towards ur right knee and then ur right elbow tomards ur left knee. left to right, and then right to left is one rep.
      a beginner should start with doing about 15 reps, and gradually increase about 5 every week. this exercise gets rid of the exess belly flab on ur tummy and soon it will be toned without the actual abs.
      the good thing about this exercise is that it will make ur body in shape long.
      the other exercise was to lay on ur right side, extend ur legs straight, and lift the left leg 60 times and then switch to ur left side and lift ur right leg 60 times... feel the burn! this will pull in ur thighs and help ur overall appearance.
      last but not least, lie flat on ur back and lift ur legs striahgt up about 6 inches and then bring them down but don't touch the floor. repeat that 5 times and gradually increase. this also helps ur abs.
      oh, i almost forgot, lie flat on ur back, bend ur knees and using ur ab muscles, raise urself off the floor about 3 inches. then extend ur arms straight along ur body and touch ur left heel then ur right heel for one rep. this helps tone ur abs. do this about 10 times, and then gradually increase every week. in about a month, u'll ahve great results that last!

      Hey hun!

      To lose weight you need to eat well and exercise. There are no shortcuts. But you can do it, just put your mind to it! I'm doing the exact same thing except I'm going into high school.

      To eat healthy:
      - drink lots of water and milk (try not to drink too much Kool-aid, lemonade, pop or fruit juices. All of these things usually have LOTS of sugar.)

      - eat lots of veggies (my favorites are: red pepper, orange pepper and lettuce)

      - eat lots of fruit (fruit is my fav! try: banana, kiwi, oranges, grapefruits, pomegranate, grapes, apples, rasberries(yummy!), strawberries, blue berries, etc)
      -- If you don't like eating straight fruit then you can choose a few like rasberries, strawberries and apple and put them in a small pot on a very low heat (like min, 1 or 2) with the cover on the pot and make a sauce - keep stirring them every few minutes! I just finished eating that exact combination.

      - As for eating sweets: count how many you eat every day (just to see) and then make a goal to eat one less sweet per day, then in a few weeks, do it again, etc. Then, you'll get two have one or two sweets on the weekends as treats. (so if you eat 5 sweets every day, try to eat only 4. When you've got that down, then try 3, etc.

      - Ask your parent(s) or guardian(s) to buy whole wheat bread or enriched bread so that you can get lots of nutrients

      - Ask for some multi vitamins. Follow the instructions on the bottle (usually it's chew one every day). I'm almost 15 and I still eat the Flintstones ones :P

      - Listen to your stomach. If you actual FEEL hungry, then eat. If you don't feel hungry, then don't. If you don't know then, a) think about how long ago you last ate, b) wait 5-10 minutes and see if you're still 'hungry', c) drink some water or milk and see if you were just thirsty...

      - ALWAYS eat BREAKFAST!!! No matter what!! Even if you have to grab something that's not very healthy, always eat breakfast!!

      - Look at that little table of nutrition facts on the side of foods. See how healthy they are. You can google and see what kind of stuff you can eat, etc. You can also get good ideas for family suppers etc.

      - Don't give up!! It's gonna be really really hard sometimes but remember you CAN do it.

      To exercise:
      - Join a sport either a club or through school or BOTH!! You could do: dance, soccer, hockey, swimming, water polo, cheerleading, gymnastics, horseback riding, curling, badminton, basketball, volleyball, etc! There are so many choices!!

      - If you have a sibling then go outside and play with them for at least 30 minutes a day! If they're a toddler then go play tag in the backyard or go to the playground or to the park and play frisbee.

      - If you have a dog then take the dog for at least one walk every day (take him as many times as you want).

      - If you have group mailboxes (the ones that aren't right at the end of your driveway) then walk down to those and check the mail every day.

      - At your local recreation center, sign up for a teen fitness class. I'm doing a teen yoga class in September!

      - If you have exercise equipment at home (treadmill, weights, an exercise ball, etc) then use them!

      - Try to do at least an hour of exercise every day!

      - Get about 9 hours of sleep every night. Not getting enough sleep can mess it all up too.

      Put up some inspiring pictures on your wall and little sticky notes that say "eat healthy" "you can do it" "don't give up" "exercise" "you've got it" all around your room and the house (if your parents will let you).

      It's not going to work in like the first day, alright? But don't stop. Keep going on this healthy lifestyle. Even if it isn't working exactly how you wanted keep going because it will make you healthier.

      If you're allowed then go see a nutritionist/dietitian. These are people that are experts on healthy eating. They can, not only, help you get healthy and lose weight, but they can help your whole family be healthy!

      Running is the easiest way to lose weight. The jumping jacks are great too. Anything that keeps your heart rate up and makes you sweat will do the job, but running is the fastest and easiest exercise for weight loss.

      Make sure you don't over-do it, though. You'll need good shoes and lots of stretching. It's best to start somewhat slowly. Don't just go out and run 10 miles one day. You have to build up your endurance. Do a little research online about the proper way to begin running without hurting yourself.

      I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

      First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...

      This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

      However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace dot com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full. Now this doesn't mean you have to follow my foot steps but I've successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

      Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

      sorry this answer is so long, i just felt it was more complicated than a "drink water, or eat less" kind of answer.

      first start by drinking a glass/bottle of water before large meals. (you can add crystal lite or lemons to improve the taste if you are not use to water.

      if you are a big soda drinker, try switching to diet. i know the taste is nasty but you gotta get used to it, 0 calories per can! you can't beat that..

      next look for high fiber foods; the more fiber you have in your diet the fuller you feel, thus the less you eat.

      it's not so much of losing weight fast, or dieting and excersing as it is more of a mind change. the size of your stomach is about the size of your fist. always have that fact in the back of your mind when you are getting a portion of food.

      if you start to think of food in terms of actually going into your body and into the size of your fist. then that will help you with protion size control... food is a volume. sure it tastes good but it is so much more than taste... don't forget it goes somewhere when you eat it!!!...

      ok, with that part said....

      lets say you don't eat large portions, instead you munch and snack through out the day... well, than that is harder because that means that you are going to have to have self control. instead of grabbing an apple or opening up a bag of chips every time you feel hungry. maybe instead drink some water/diet soda. (your body's feelings of thirst and hunger are almost the same and sometimes when you think you are hungry you are really thristy instead.)

      if you are hungry, than munch on raspberries (1 calorie per one raspberry) or some grapes (2 calories per one grape),,, apples are also fullfilling... and last but not least everytime you start to feel hungry take a large deep breath and blow it out slowly (do this 4 more times) really think about and control your breathing... it will hopefully take your mind off eating, and perhaps. help you to think twice about if you are really hungry or not.

      and my final word on this... i promise, go to "about. com calorie counter" and create an account.. monitor your weight, activity, and food every day (if not every other day)... it will really help you put things into perspective. don't get discouraged. you didn't wake up one morning overweight, and your not going to wake up thin... start out by retraining your body get to know your "trigger foods" (the foods that are bad for you, but you can't say no to) and stay far far far far far far away from them, "one little bite" might not hurt you, but it is so easy to keep saying "oh it's just one little bite!" or "I've worked so hard i deserve a treat" (NO TREATS!! it's what got you to where you are today)

      when you lose as much weight as you can by dieting, than start to exercise... but i tell you from experience; it is not easy to stick to a drastic lifestyle change all at once (dieting AND exercisiing) so pick one (I think dieting is more crucial) and do it first for several months until you get the hang of it, than introduce exercisiing into your life.

      I used to be a constant eater, and muncher. I was pre dieabetic because of my bad eating habits and being over weight. than i started a low calorie diet (1,200 a day), i ate lots of filling, low calorie foods, and i drank a lot of green tea (0 calore lipton diet tea) i also ate the vanilla almond special k with skim milk everyday and i snacked on special K bars (90 cal each)... for lunch i ate a lean cuisine, and for dinner i had conservative size portions of mostly veggies with some chicken, or turkey (not much of a red meat eater) anywho i monitored all of this on the calorie counter website and I lost 2-4 pounds a week... no diet, or amount of excersize is going to help you realize what your body needs (and doesn't need), only you, getting to know, it will.
      BTW I had lost 30 pounds in about 12 weeks

      on a side note, I went off my diet (cound't afford the name brand foods anymore, I gained back 5 pounds of the 30 i had lost, but that was it

      but my friend lost 100 pounds in like 4-5 months with rigorious and constant exercisiing, and also the special K diet. but she never found out about her body, and how to control her hunger...she started eating and slacked on exercisiing... and she gained half the weight back in 2-3 months!!!!!

      so once more, losing weight is a LIFE CHANGE it is not simple and it is not easy.

      and as for exercisiing: sit ups, crunches, push ups, jumping jacks, walking in place... if you want to spend a little money by resistance bands, or dumbells... figure out a routine that is about 20-30 mins long and while you are working up a sweat (you have to work up a sweat for it to count!) think about the cool pair of jeans you want to fit into, or the cute boy you have a crush on...

      another thing that might help, get someone to take a photo of you, while posing look straight ahead, stand like you normally do, (if you slouch, than slo

      Skip the fast food! None of it is healthy, unless you are talking about Subway - and then, skip the mayo and Italian dressing, possibly the cheese. (Go for whole wheat bread, if they have it.) People think salads are healthy, but the toppings and the dressings are full of extra calories. Skip it unless you're making salads yourself and can control what's going in it.

      Italian food: skip the pasta - too many empty calories. Also watch the cream sauces - lots of calories in those, too.

      Chinese food: steamed vegetables are best, but be careful of fried foods and too much rice. Also watch the sauces - lots of extra calories in them, too. Always ask how foods are prepared and ask to have them steamed or broiled. Many Chinese dishes are prepared in LOADS of oil!

      For frozen foods, the Lean Cuisine entrees are all very good. They are low in calories and satisfying, too.

      Bro, everyone here is advising you to get exercise, but if you're like me you don't like to go out and run, it sucks and I never stick with it. Since you're 15 you can actually lose weight pretty fast so have hope, don't despair or get discouraged.

      Do you think your Mom would be willing to help? The only thing you need to do is find a reasonable diet and stick with it. What makes you gain weight is that you're eating the wrong foods and eating too much of them. If you find a reasonable diet it will help you learn how much to eat and when to eat. One really good diet is the South Beach diet, you can find the book in the library. If your mom helps she can prepare your lunch to take to school and make sure your meals have the right portions.

      Do NOT read silly BS online articles about losing weight fast. They are at best apocryphal and at worst damaging to your health.

      Here's the best weight loss diet (an opinion based on several years of research):

      Eat fewer calories than you expend.

      That's about all there is to it. Eat less than you burn, and you will lose weight.

      Now there are some nuances to all this.

      Some people will tell you to avoid carbohydrates (e.g. the Atkins diet people). This is not necessary, though it is an option.

      Others will tell you to avoid fats (e.g. the standard party line among medical circles.)

      Bottom line, you need a balanced diet with carbs, protein, and fats. There is no scientifically identified ideal combination, so you (and all of us) are on our own to identify what's best for us.

      As a general rule, you need at least 1 gram per kilogram of body weight in protein. For a 212 pound person this is 53 grams of protein. This is a MINIMUM.

      Also as a general rule, you should eat carbohydrates that have a low glycemic index - there are many internet resources that will give you the glycemic index of foods, just google it.

      Keep up the biking. This is a great aerobic exercise that will help you burn calories while toning your abs and lower body. Try to add in some weight training or similar exercises that will build muscle mass.

      It WILL take some time, but anything worth doing is worth doing well - which means time and commitment.

    In March 2009, I was 174lbs. September 2009, I was 168lbs. December 2009, I was 160lbs. Now, I'm 166lbs. Gained about 6lbs in muscle in the past month.

    I'm 62inches tall, female.

    Workout 6 days a week, 3 of those days consist of working out twice at the gym.
    My workout plan as follows:
    1 hour cardio (15 min stair master, 15 min exercise bike, 20 min treadmill (walking until my shin splints heal, though it has been 2 weeks and they are taking really long to heal), 5 min rowing, 10 minutes on bike again).
    1 hour weights (varies per weight machine, and some free weights)
    20 minutes steam room.

    All this has helped me lose 8 pounds in one month. BUT, apparently, I push harder in the weight room, and gained 6 pounds back. I'm enlisting in the Army, and I need to be at least 32% body fat. A month ago, I was 34%, and as of last week, I'm 33%. Need to lose one more percent in POSSIBLY 2-3weeks.

    Diet:
    2 pieces of wheat toast with low fat peanut butter for breakfast
    Cheeze-it party mix for snack
    1 cup fat free yogurt with crushed walnuts and an apple for lunch
    1 mango for a snack
    Skinless/Boneless white chicken (broiled) w/garlic salt and pepper & corn, or any red meat broiled, baked, with baked red potatoes (or anything like that)

    Now, I know I should be pushing harder on cardio to lose more weight, but for some reason I'm more motivated on the weights. 2 months ago, I started off doing 20-30lbs on the weight machines. Now I'm doing 80-110 on the weight machines (150-170 on leg press, 90-110 on pull down, 105-120 on the machine where you push down on the bars on your sides, 80 on the machine where you pull the bars on your side to the front of your face, etc)

    Anything else I can do to help improve weight loss guys? My recruiter suggested a "seaweed wrap" to help lose 2 inches off my waist. Oh yeah, I've lost about an inch off my neck measurement, an inch and a half or two on my waist, and for some reason, I'm not losing anything off my hips!

    Suggestions for anything I've listed would be totally awesome and considered! Thanks so much!

And start eating almonds for a snack. and potatoes also help you gain weight. drinking water should be a regular part of yor diet. because at army boot camp you will drink water. trust me im in the army reserves and ill bet your going to fort jackson, south carolina or fort leonerdwood, missouri for BCT. and trust me you will burn that off at basic combat training.

      Hey yess agree agreee NO STARVING ..starving is horrible for diet. It slow down the metabolism thus result in weight gain.
      You should eat more veggies and fruits, drink more water, eat 5-6 small portions through out the day, healthy snacks in b/w your healthy meal.

      Run or jog every day for 30-40 mins.
      100-300 crunches
      80-100 squats
      10-20 push ups

      all this can be done at home and jog or run can be done at the park or lake walking track.
      No need of wasting $$$ in gym membership.

      I dont know about any other tea diet, but drinking 2-3 cups of hot green tea with some lemon added to it.helps in losing weight.

      give this routine 4 weeks, i am sure you will see difference,

      Well, i am 14 also, and ive been always wearing a t-shirt in the pool, i wanted to do something, so i took it along.

      First thing you need to do is: Eat Healthy Foods, etc Carrot, Cucumbers, Lettuce, Tomatoes. This doesn't mean you have to always eat this, for dinner you can have a steak and make sure u have at least 3 healthy vegetables, make sure you don't snack. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Make sure you don't eat any sweets 3 hours before sleeping!

      It is fine to have 1 or 2 sweets a week, just make sure you have a planned diet, maybe you can write up a meal for every day? if you have all the ingredients then ur well under way.

      I wouldn't recommend have those few sweets, as you want to lose weight fast.

      The Exercising Part:
      If you want to lose weight fast, make sure you exercise more than 4 hours a day, depending on how confident you are and how fast you want to lose it.
      In The Mornings, have alot of protein, eg: Eggs
      Go for a 1 hour run, go to the gym to exercise, or if you have any equipment at home.
      Have lots of water and keep exercising!

      If you keep this up, over 1 month, you can lose over 10kg, depending on how much weigh, in your case 160, you would be able to lose a lot!

      Just be motivated and don't be lazy!

    hey. i'm 16 years old, 5'2'' (done growing, haven't grown since the beginning of 7th grade) and 145 pounds. i'd really like to lose some weight before school starts on september 1st. i'd just had a couple quick questions about it...

    *i've heard a lot about the South Beach Diet, and i got the book and read it. if i go on phase 1, will i really lose 14 pounds in 2 weeks? what are the typical results?

    *are there any vitamins or anything that help with weight loss? i'm a vegan, so i know that i dont get a lot of the vitamins that i should...

    *what kinds of exercises should i do? i'm on vacation until the august 12th, so all i can do down here is walk or go in the pool. but how far should i walk? or how long should i swim for? also, are there any toning exercises that i can do?

    *when i get home, i'll have access to a treadmill, elliptical, stair step machine, bike, bowflex and free weights. when i walk in our workout room i just feel overwhelmed. i don't know where to begin. so what should i do? and for how long?

      You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

      Your body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.

      Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) and exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

      The core of the Atkins program is converting your body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). You need to keep your fat levels at >65% of your calories, if you don't your body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

      It takes minimum of 3 days to convert your body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis) you will probably feel sluggish the first week but most people feel better than ever thereafter.

      Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

      Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.

      High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

      Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. for hot cereal or 2 min. for more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

      The first 2 weeks you can have several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce and celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers and more variety of vegetables thereafter add 5 grams per day additional (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight.

      Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.

      Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Normalizing blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, triglyercerides and hormone levels are all bonus features of doing a low carb way of eating. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calories, Bad calories" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.

      In terms of diet, cut out or reduce things like junk food, pop, fat, fast food. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish. Particularly if you choose a vegetarian lifestyle include natural peanut butter, hummus, dried fruit and nuts. Pay close attention to getting the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.

      Make your portion sizes smaller. Use a smaller plate - in our society we have become accustomed to thinking that we need a large plate of food at every meal, and we don't. About quarter of your plate of food should be protein and at least half of it should be veggies.

      Learn to count calories. At your current weight and activity level, you may possibly need about 2000 calories or more to maintain your current weight. So you will lose weight at a reasonable and healthy rate if you cut back to about 1600 or 1700 calories a day.

      Eat small amounts frequently, rather than three large meals. Never skip breakfast. Include some protein in your breakfast. It will help get you through the day.

      Hmm, there really is no fast way to lose weight unless you want to starve yourself and end up gaining it all back faster than you lost it. The slower you lose the weight, the better. Trust me. Losing weight slowly overtime is way healthier and you will not gain it all back once you stop dieting.

      Here are some healthy weight loss tips you can follow if you want:

      1. Eat healthy.
      2. Eat smaller meals throughout the day, preferably 4 to 6 meals a day.
      3. Exercise 3 to 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes. (you already have this covered)
      4.Drink plenty of water.
      5.Get plenty of rest at night.
      6.Eat BREAKFAST!

      *And when I say eat healthy, this means stay away from: candy,White bread, canned soups, chips, any/all junk food, and NO TV dinners.
